Learning and Development Domains

Learning and Development —  at 82nd Street Academics we focus on student developmental areas of social-emotional skills, physical development, language & literacy development and mathematical/cognitive thinking. Our curiosity-driven approach uses an adaptive curriculum. We incorporate 7 domains of learning (listed below) and plans are checked by our Early Childhood Programs Director.

Social-Emotional Health:

Developing self-awareness, becoming more independent, taking personal responsibility in the school environment, and showing empathy for others. These skills are vital for future success in life.

Physical Development:

Children improve gross motor skills (using large muscle groups) and fine motor skills (control over muscles in hands). Check out our Learning Park by clicking the pic

Language & Literacy Development:

Three-year-olds have rapidly developing listening and speaking abilities for Learning and Development. The daily activities in our program help young children express their thoughts and understand others. And some have a lot to say!

Mathematical & Cognitive Thinking:

This area includes logical thinking skills such as comparing, sorting, measuring, and pattern recognition. Through play, children learn to use symbols, developing their capacity to understand abstract ideas. The future engineers love these days!

Aesthetics:

Music and movement, art and color, and classroom projects which the children display on bulletin boards placed in the room and in the hallway. Does your child have a hidden talent to discover at 82nd Street Academics?

Social Studies:

Students investigate community relationships and interact with resources from our neighborhood. They realize people do many different kinds of jobs. They explore technology in Learning and Development. Sometimes, there’s a trip to the Post Office!

Scientific Thinking:

They practice asking questions, use simple tools to explore, explore movement of objects and conduct experiments in physical, life, and earth sciences. These days are great for kids who learn by trying and experimenting!
