My name is Cristina Lubo and I would like to tell you a little about myself and our full day preschool program. I attended Marist College, located in Poughkeepsie NY, where I received my B.A In Psychology and General/Special Education. I have been working in our preschool program here at 82nd Street Academics as of 2012. I have a huge passion for working with children and I believe one must have that in order to run a successful program.
Our program runs in a child discovery mode, where our classroom is center-based; filled with many toys, books and manipulatives that contribute to the child’s learning. We follow a curriculum of preschool themes that we mold to make as interesting and interactive for the 3 year old minds. By the end of the school year we want students to have gained independence and have developed a foundation of good social, communicative, and cognitive skills that will help them in the years of schooling that follows.
My Name is Rean Valere and I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. In 2013, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Queens College and am now in the process of completing my Masters in literacy. I have been at 82nd Street Academics for almost 6 years. During this time, I have worked in the after school and summer school programs at 82nd St Academics, with the older students. Working in Jackson Heights for the past couple of years and I have learned to embrace the culture of all my student past and present. Currently, I am the Lead Teacher for one of our Pre K For All Classes.
The environment that Pre K classroom provides encourages language and vocabulary acquisition, life skills, friendship, and acceptance of others. We do this by creating a comfortable setting by integrating music, games, stories, and crafts to help foster educational fun-filled learning.
Hello! My name is Alejandra Singh and I am very excited to introduce myself to all of you. Here are a few things to get to know me a little better. I’ve been teaching in 82nd Street Academics since September 2013. Currently, I am a lead teacher for half-day preschool, however, I’ve also had the pleasure of teaching in the after school and summer school programs. I graduated from Adelphi University with a Masters degree in Childhood Education and a Bachelors degree in Psychology. I pursued a career in teaching because many of my teachers inspired and challenged me to love learning. They were role models and some even heroes. Now as a teacher I hope to positively influence all my students to love learning.
Our program is dedicated to creating an environment that provides your child with positive early education experiences. The curriculum and lesson plans that we implement are based on fun and interesting themes that help students develop in multiple domains of learning. In our classroom your children will be part of a team that focuses on having positive learning experiences through hands-on learning discoveries. Our goal is to provide your children with the support and encouragement needed to help them become responsible and independent students who love learning. I am looking forward to our preschool adventure with your child and family.
My name is Fernanda Cordero. I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Childhood Education from Queens College. I was a kindergarten assistant for two years at Manhattan Charter School. I am very excited to join the team of educators at 82nd Street Academics as one of the Pre-k Dual Language Teachers. I was born in New York City but was raised in Ecuador. I returned to NYC at the age of 13 and I know firsthand the challenges faced by children learning a new language. As such, I am committed to helping children learn a second language by enhancing their prior knowledge and meeting their needs. I am very passionate about teaching young children and enjoy watching children become more independent as they learn new things about themselves and the world. As a teacher, I want to help children discover who they are and who they want to be. I want to help children feel confident in their own abilities so that they can become high functioning adults in an ever changing world.
